1. Why should I recycle?

Recycling saves energy, conserves our resources for future generations, reduces pollution, and saves you money. Please note that some items can be recycled curbside and others can be recycled both curbside and at the Recycling Center.

2. What can I recycle curbside?

No Plastic Bags, place recyclables loose and unbagged.

Commingled Containers

Do Recycle:

• Glass bottles - food bottles and jars, wine bottles, beer bottles (remove caps)
• Metals - aluminum and tin cans, empty aerosol cans
• Plastic - All plastic numbered 1 through 6

Do not Recycle:

• All Styrofoam
• Ceramics
• Drinking glasses
• Lightbulbs
• Pesticide or solvent containers
• Plastic bags of any kind
• Plastic Plant Pots (even with a recycling number)
• Pyrex
• Toys, any plastic without a number
• Waxed coated containers
• Window panes

Paper

Do Recycle

• Cardboard - broken down no larger than 4 feet by 4 feet
• Newspaper and magazines - bundled and tied or in a separate paper bag
• Other paper - any color. No need to remove staples. Separate into paper bag or recycling bin

Do not Recycle

• Dirty paper plates and cups
• Paper coffee cups, lids and straws and all egg containers (paper, plastic and styrofoam)
• Paper towel cores
• Pizza boxes
• Toilet paper cores

3. What can I bring to the recycling center?

No Plastic Bags, all recyclables taken to the Recycling Center must also be loose and unbagged.

Allowed Items

Do Recycle

Everything you can recycle curbside, plus:

• Batteries
• Cell phones
• Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs (CFLs) - These bulbs are better for the environment
• E-Waste - Free collection of New York State Covered Electronics. Effective October 1, 2015 fees for CRT devices (TV's and monitors) will be: 
  • Less than 27 inches $15 
  • Less than 28 inches $40
  • Disposal Wednesday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
• Florescent Light Bulbs
• Freon-containing appliances (e.g, Refrigerators, Air Conditioners, and Dehumidifiers)
• Gas Grill Canisters
• Printer Cartridges
• Scrap metal
• Tires
• Yard Waste
• Other Items

Do recycle

• Construction Debris such as bricks, insulation, sheet rock and car parts
• Do not recycle
• Holiday trees
• Household Chemicals: can be taken to Westchester County Facilities (PDF)
• Yard waste - compostable bags, on designated waste days
