Did you know that meat production requires more resources and creates significantly more greenhouse gases than vegetable production? Eating just one 1⁄4-pound beef burger is the equivalent of driving 7 miles. Join the New Castle Sustainability Advisory Board’s 12-week challenge to reduce your carbon "foodprint" by swapping out meat one day a week. The Meatless Monday Challenge takes place from September 23 - December 16, 2019. Together, our community can have a positive impact on the environment by making small changes just one day per week.
What will be involved in our Meatless Monday challenge?
The first step is to ‘Take the Pledge’ to eat a meat-free diet one day per week. We request a few basic details to measure our success at the end of the 12-week challenge.
You choose the day to leave meat off the menu. Many people choose Mondays which can be viewed as an opportunity for a fresh start.
Each Friday, the E-newsletter will feature a meatless recipe, meatless specials at local restaurants, and tips and tools to help everyone succeed at this challenge. Follow our Facebook page (@newcastleSAB) and check out our website newcastleSAB.org to learn how eating less meat can make a huge impact. If you’d like to get involved, please email the New Castle Sustainability Advisory Board (SAB).
