The Town of New Castle participated in the daily Con Edison emergency response call to discuss power outages related to yesterday’s storm event. The following is an update:
RESPONSE: Countywide, 22,000 Con Edison customers have had their power restored, and 3,800 customers are still without power. 72 roads were closed and 13 are still pending. All closed roads have crews assigned. Here in New Castle, there are 413 customers without power, which makes us one of the most heavily impacted communities.
RESTORATION: Currently Con Edison has a global restoration time of 11PM, which means that 95% of customers will be restored by 11PM tonight, April 14th. Please note that there may be emergency interruptions – in other words power may be disrupted for those who currently have power in order to bring back areas where outages have occurred. Residents will be informed of estimated time of restoration.
LOCAL OUTAGES AND ROAD CLOSURES: There are six road closures in the Town: Whippoorwill Road at Whippoorwill Lake Road, Seven Bridges Road, Haights Cross Road, Poillion Drive, Shadowbrook Parkway, and Overlook Drive. Con Edison is aware of these road closures and the Town is working with our Con Edison municipal liaison to prioritize these jobs. Con Edison also confirmed that there is a major outage at Whippoorwill Road, with significant work to be done there to restore power. The Town will be working throughout the day with Con Edison to restore power and provide updates to residents. Please be aware as part of Con Ed’s restoration work, there may be periodic partial or complete closures of other roads throughout the day.
STAY SAFE: If you are out walking and observe downed trees, please stay away -- there is a possibility of live wires.
