On Friday, March 20, 2020 the Board of Fire Commissioners of the New Castle Fire District # 1 (NCFD # 1) and the Chief of the Chappaqua Fire Department (CFD) held an emergency meeting to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on day-to-day operations of the NCFD # 1 and CFD. Central to the meeting were discussions regarding the health and safety of the all-volunteer CFD, equipment, facilities and posture during the declared State of New York Disaster Emergency (March 7, 2020) and National Emergency (March 13, 2020).

The NCFD # 1 is in direct contact with our state, county and local partners and stakeholders.  The NCFD # 1 will closely monitor the news and will make thoughtful, well informed and deliberate decisions based on guidance from New York State, Westchester County and local officials as appropriate during this emergency.

The NCFD # 1 has a myriad of statutory responsibilities including the levying of taxes for the purpose of providing fire protection for the residents of the fire district. The NCFD # 1 budget is used to provide the CFD the funding necessary for equipment, apparatus, training, day-to-day operations, maintenance and repair of fire district facilities, amongst other specialty matters.

For the health and safety of all concerned and until further notice, all NCFD # 1 meetings will be closed to the public, however such meetings will still be live streamed.   The NCFD # 1 encourages public comment and feedback.  Please send any public comment and feedback to:  NCFD # 1. The NCFD # 1 stands ever-ready and determined to fully support the CFD, its all-volunteer membership and the residents fire district during this national and state emergency.   

The NCFD # 1 wishes to thank the professional and dedicated all-volunteer CFD membership for their continued and anticipated work in coming weeks and possibly months; and ask all residents of the fire district to remain vigilant and follow all appropriate guidance from federal, state, county and local officials during this emergency.
