The CREI has been notified of an incident of racial epithets being used at the Chappaqua public library, and we have been making inquiries into the response by both the Library and the School District. All New Castle residents should be free from discrimination and harassment in our shared spaces. The library especially should be a haven for our residents, one where any visitor can expect to be treated with respect. In ensuring a safe environment it is crucial that there is a plan and accountability for enforcement of the rules of common decency, as well as the rules of the institution itself. We hope to confirm the details of any such protocols in an effort to make these policies and procedures transparent, accessible to and understood by all New Castle residents.
The CREI would like to offer ourselves as a resource to town residents on issues around race, equity, and inclusion. Please come to us with your thoughts, your concerns, or if you’re in need of support of any kind. We are ourselves residents and community members, and we are here to serve you. Please reach out to us at crei@mynewcastle.org.
