The Board of Architectural Review has an open position. The Board was established to promote the desirable exterior appearance of new buildings and additional to buildings, on residential, business, or other properties in terms of uniformity, dissimilarity, inappropriateness, or poor quality of design.
The five members of this Board are to be specially qualified to serve by reason of training or experience in art, architecture, community planning, land development, real estate, landscape architecture, or other relevant business or profession, or by reasons of civic interest and sound judgment.
The Board’s duties, powers and responsibilities:
- Evaluates applications for building permits for new buildings or additions where the cost is estimated to be $5,000 or more.
- Evaluates applications of projections above roof level that exceed the maximum permitted building height in the zoning district.
- Evaluates applications for special use permits made to the Zoning Board of Appeals for recommendation on architectural features.
- Evaluates any other applications for a building permit at the discretion of the Building Inspector.
Meetings are held the first and third Wednesday of every month at 8 p.m.
The applicant should do minimally-related business in New Castle since this may require him/her to recuse him/herself from participation in the decision-making process.
